Unfolding

I have now begun to unfold. Today I did my fourth antibiotic day (two doses via IV each day) and, as of right now, I am just coming down from a complete freak out.

To begin, Dr. Jemsek has told me I need fourteen to sixteen hours of sleep. I am currently getting six if I’m lucky. Part of this is because I have a three-year-old who is waking me up multiple times a night, probably precisely because I ask her not to. After begging her, yelling at her, reasoning with her, etc. to no avail, we created a sticker chart. When she fills the sticker chart by letting mommy sleep, she will get the big-girl blue bike she has wanted. It’s sitting in my closet and I am dying to give it to her, but I feel that this is my bargaining chip right now and I want to reward her for good behavior rather than be frustrated all the time. And I want to sleep. Yeah, well that worked for four nights.

My French Bulldog has been throwing up a lot. Lately it’s been happening around 3:30 a.m. and he barks for me, knowing I will always come at the first bark. We went to the vet on Friday. I was hysterical, as I always am now with my Herxes. We did X-rays and found nothing. His stomach was enlarged to three times its normal size because of all the air he’s sucking in when he wheezes before he pukes.

This really does get me Herxing…

So this morning, I did an antibiotic drip and then set off to take him to the emergency vet (they are amazing) where I planned to have an endoscopy, a biopsy and an ultrasound. This place is an hour away. We got halfway there and I thought, “Shit! He obviously needs to be fasting.” And I had fed him this morning. I confirmed with the vet that it was a no go.

When I got home, I made him some rice. Time to switch to plain rice and chicken for a while. Of course I couldn’t find my rice cooker and then I couldn’t find the top to it. Then it was the measuring cup. And you can imagine the panic starting to set in. I proceeded open the cabinet of pots and pans and everything came falling out on the floor, and the crashing noise made me scream, the sound igniting a rage in me like I have not experienced in several months.

I started wailing, that kind of sobbing that comes from deep within your belly and you can’t stop, the kind where you can barely speak. And I was screaming. You know, the kind where you are weeping so uncontrollably that you forget why you are crying. I talk about this like everyone knows how this is, but truthfully, I’m not sure if this is normal for everyone or just my normal. In any case, I knew right away it was a Herx. These kinds of episodes have been some of my worst neurological symptoms of Lyme.
